NYU professor of art history Arthur Landan has a talent for tracking down stolen artwork. However, he has a secret, he is a recovering jewel thief who struggles to control his larcenous urges. Racked by guilt over the murder of his fiancée, who was killed for a necklace he had stolen, Arthur has vowed never to steal or love again.
Both vows are tested when Arthur attempts to retrieve a stolen Picasso and is drawn into a battle of wits with an adversary from his past, a brilliant but murderous forger whose raison d’être is to see Arthur utterly discredited—and utterly dead.
Arthur’s only chance to retrieve the painting is to team up with Clarisse, a con artist whose uncertain loyalties threaten Arthur’s mission almost as much as her vulnerability threatens his heart.
