Today I share another resource. Dialect Guide: American Dialects by Point Park University, a handy site for helping to write authentic dialog. The site is organized by General American, Northern Dialects and Southern Dialects. Under each heading they have Audio Resources, Library Resources, Local Resources (by name), followed by Video Examples, Plays and more. Here are a sample:

• Under Video Examples there is a video of Christopher Walken speaking a distinctive Northern dialect, born in Astoria, Queens, New York.
• A video of Fargo chit chat.
• Under Audio Resources, they have a 50 year old female from Chicago

There are tons of examples. It’s a great tool for writing authentic dialog and unlike other dialect sites, these links actually worked.
